Congregational Bible Reading Challenge
As we near the end of our 2026 churchwide Bible Reading Plan, we have an opportunity to slow down and look back at some of the Old Testament prophecies pointing forward to the coming Messiah. Beginning the week of October 12, we’ll finish the book of Malachi and complete our journey through the Old Testament. To carry us toward the Christmas season, we’re inviting our church family to take on a special Bible Reading Challenge: Prophecies and Their Fulfillments. The Challenge Throughout the Old Testament, we find many prophecies concerning the coming Messiah. For this challenge, we’ll focus on just a few of them. The readings are already included in our Bible Reading Plan. The challenge is to read each prophecy and then see if you can find where it is fulfilled or quoted in the New Testament. Some will be easy to recognize. For example, Psalm 22 begins: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Those words are familiar from the accounts of Jesus' crucifixion. Other prophecies may require a little more searching. How to Participate Challenge sheets will be available on the tables in the back of the sanctuary or right here through this link. The sheet lists each prophecy and provides space for you to write the corresponding New Testament reference or references.Bible Reading Plan and Instructions As you work through the challenge, you can use: Your Bible's cross-references or chain references A Bible concordance Other Bible study tools Looking Toward Christmas We'll continue exploring these prophecies through the week before Christmas. Then, as we approach Christmas Day, we'll turn our attention to the Christmas story itself and read through the accounts of Christ's birth through the end of the year. The very first prophecy concerning the coming Messiah appears in Genesis 3. From the beginning, Scripture points us toward Jesus, our Savior. As we read these passages together, our hope is that you'll see more clearly how the whole story of Scripture points to Christ and how faithfully God fulfills His promises. We hope you can join us for a simple opportunity to connect with others before worship. Bible Reading Workshop Are you ready to grow in your understanding of God’s Word? On Sunday, October 18, from 12:00–2:30 PM, the Discipleship Commission will host a workshop in the Fellowship Hall to learn a technique that can help improve your understanding as you read the Bible. Lunch will be provided.RSVP Here CommUNITY Fall Festival Prince Street Church is joining several community churches to help organize and run the CommUNITY Fall Festival on Saturday, November 7, from 5:00–8:00 PM at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds. Volunteers are needed that evening to help in a variety of areas. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve together and share the love of Christ with our community.Click here to volunteer Yard signs are available to help tell your neighborhood about the upcoming Fall Festival. Stop at the back of the Sanctuary to sign one out. Since these signs are reused each year, please return yours after the event. Camp Joy Fall Opportunities Father Son Retreat – October 16–18 What does it mean to be a man of faith and courage? Student Update | Wednesday, October 14 Hey Students! Get ready for another great Wednesday night at Prince Street Student Ministry! We've got food, a creative project, and some fun planned for you! 🎨 This Wednesday | Foundations: Who Is God? Over the past few weeks, we've been learning about God's nature and character—who He is and what makes Him God! This Wednesday, we're switching things up! Instead of our normal lesson, we're going to get creative! You'll have the opportunity to create something that reminds us of God's nature and character. And here's the cool part: Your creations will become decorations in the Youth House! Every time we gather, we'll have reminders of who God is and what we've learned about Him. 🌭 What's for Dinner? Parent Update week of October 12
Parents, here's what's happening this week at Prince Street Student Ministry! We're looking forward to another great Wednesday night of food, fellowship, and growing together in our understanding of God. 📖 This Wednesday | Foundations: Who Is God? Over the past few weeks, we've been studying the nature and character of God, learning more about who He is and what Scripture reveals about Him. This Wednesday, we're going to do something a little different! Students will use what they've learned to complete a creative project that will serve as a reminder of God's nature and character. Their creations will become decorations in the Youth House, serving as ongoing reminders of who God is each time we gather together. Our goal is to help students remember that knowing who God is changes how we see Him, how we trust Him, and how we live each day. 🍽️ What's for Dinner? This week's menu: 🌭 Hot Dogs 🧀 Mac and Cheese 🍦 Ice Cream for Dessert! Dinner begins at 6:00 PM, followed by our activities and lesson. 🏠 Parent Challenge | Who Is God? This week, take a few minutes before Wednesday to talk with your student about what they've been learning. Ask your student: "What is one thing you've learned about God's character or nature that has changed how you think about Him?" Take some time to discuss their answer together. Grades 6–12 🍽️ Dinner: Creamy Ranch Chicken 📖 Foundations: The Character of God This week we’re continuing our Foundations series as we talk about the character of God. Last week, we looked at God’s nature—who God is. This week, we’ll build on that foundation by looking at His character—what God is like. We’ll explore Scripture to see how God describes Himself and what His character means for how we know Him, trust Him, and live in relationship with Him. Parent Challenge — Before Wednesday Sometime before Wednesday night, ask your student: “If you had to describe what God is like using three words, what words would you choose?” Don’t worry about finding the “right” answers. Let them explain why they chose those words. Then share three words you would use to describe God. Encourage your student to come Wednesday ready to compare your answers with what we discover about God’s character in Scripture. 🙏 Pray Together Before Wednesday, take a moment to pray with your student. Ask God to help them see more clearly who He is as we open His Word together this week. 🎃 Coming Up: Pumpkin Party! Don’t forget—the last Wednesday in October is our Pumpkin Party! We’ll be carving pumpkins, eating pumpkin-themed food, and playing pumpkin games. Students are welcome to wear youth-group-appropriate costumes. This is a great night for students to invite a friend, so start thinking now about who they could bring! It’s going to be a gourd time!
