This Week in Student Ministry — Parent Update

Parents, we’re looking forward to another Wednesday night together! This week we’ll continue our Foundations series as we help students develop a strong foundation for understanding God’s Word and following Jesus.

We’ll share a meal, have some fun together, and dig into some important questions about the Bible.

💬 Ask This Before Wednesday

Before your student comes Wednesday night, we’d love for you to start the conversation at home.

Ask them:

“Why do you think we can trust the Bible?”

You don’t need to give them the answer or turn it into a lesson. Just ask the question and listen.

Let them think about it. Ask a follow-up question if it leads somewhere. It’s okay if they aren’t sure how to answer.

Then tell them we’ll be talking about that question Wednesday night.

Our hope is that this gives you an opportunity to begin a faith conversation at home while also giving your student something to think about before we gather.

This week we’ll explore two important questions:

Why can we trust the Bible?

What is the purpose of the Bible?

Our students live in a world where they will encounter many different ideas about Scripture. We don’t simply want them to know that Christians believe the Bible—we want them to understand why we can trust God’s Word and why God has given it to us.

One of the passages we’ll look at is 2 Timothy 3:16–17, where Paul reminds Timothy that all Scripture is breathed out by God and is useful for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness so that God’s people can be equipped for every good work.

The Bible isn't simply a collection of interesting stories, inspirational sayings, or rules to follow. It is God's Word, given to reveal truth, point us toward Him, shape us, and equip us to live as His people.

As we continue Foundations, our goal is to help students understand what they believe, why they believe it, and how those beliefs shape the way they follow Jesus.

Parent Update- Week of Sept 21
Parents, here’s what’s coming up this week in Student Ministry! This Wednesday, we’ll continue our Foundations series as we help students learn how to read and understand Scripture for themselves. This week, we’re looking at the different genres found in the Bible and why recognizing them matters when we read God’s Word. This Wednesday Date: Wednesday, September 23 Time: 6:00–8:00 PM Location: Youth House Who: Students in 6th–12th grade Dinner: Pancakes & Sausage 📖 This Week in Foundations: Genres in Scripture The Bible is one Story, but it contains many different kinds of writing. This week, students will learn about genres found throughout Scripture, including history, poetry, prophecy, wisdom literature, letters, and more. Why does that matter? We don’t read a poem the same way we read a history book, and we don’t read a letter exactly the same way we read a proverb. Recognizing what kind of writing we’re reading helps us slow down, pay attention to what the biblical authors are communicating, and understand God’s Word more clearly. Our goal isn’t simply for students to know the names of different genres. We want to give them practical tools that help them become more confident reading and studying Scripture for themselves. 🏠 Parent Challenge: Read It Differently Sometime this week, take a few minutes with your student and read Psalm 23 and Mark 4:35–41 together. Then talk about these questions: What is different about the way these two passages are written? What does each passage teach us about God? Why might it matter that one is poetry and the other tells us about an event in Jesus’ life? You don’t need to turn this into a lesson or have all the answers. Let your student do some of the thinking. Ask questions, listen to what they notice, and talk about it together. The goal is simply to open God’s Word together and practice recognizing how the kind of writing we’re reading helps us understand what God is communicating through it. 🌧️ Giant Banana Split Update It looks like we’re going to have some rainy weather, so we will not be doing the giant banana split this Wednesday. Don’t worry—we haven’t forgotten about it! We’ll save it for another night when the weather cooperates and we can enjoy it together. 🎃 Looking Ahead: Pumpkin Party The last Wednesday of October will be our Pumpkin Party for students in 6th–12th grade! We’re planning a fun night with: 🎃 Pumpkin carving 🍽️ Pumpkin-themed food 🎲 Pumpkin games Students are welcome to dress in costume, as long as costumes are appropriate for youth group. This will also be a great night for students to invite a friend. We’ll share more details as we get closer. 🙏 Pray With Us As we gather this week, please pray: For understanding — that students would learn to read Scripture carefully and understand what God is communicating through His Word. For confidence — that students would become increasingly comfortable opening and studying the Bible for themselves. For desire — that knowing how to study Scripture would lead to a deeper desire to spend time in God’s Word. For transformation — that students wouldn’t simply learn more about the Bible, but would be shaped by God’s Word as they follow Jesus. Student Ministry Parent Update | This Week We had a great time together at Uprise Fest this weekend! It was good to spend time with our students, enjoy the music and activities, and continue building relationships as a Student Ministry. This Wednesday, we’re back at the Youth House and continuing our Foundations series. We’ll move from talking about what we believe about Scripture to something very practical: How do we actually allow Scripture to shape the way we live? This Wednesday Date: Wednesday, September 16 Time: 6:00–8:00 PM Location: Youth House Who: Students in 6th–12th grade Dinner: Grilled Cheese & Tater Tots Since we didn’t end up having grilled cheese last week, we’re giving it another try! 📖 What We’ve Been Learning Two weeks ago, we talked about why we can trust the Bible. Last week, we built on that by looking at 2 Timothy 3:16–17. Scripture is God-breathed and is given to equip us through teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. This week, we’re asking the practical follow-up: How do we actually allow Scripture to do those things in our lives? This Week: How Do We Let the Bible Shape Us? We’re going to give students a simple framework they can use when reading Scripture for themselves. We’ll encourage them to ask four questions: What does this Scripture say about God and His character? What does this Scripture say that God does? What does this Scripture say about who we are? In light of this Scripture, how do I get to live? Our goal is to help students move beyond simply knowing things about the Bible and learn how to engage with God’s Word and allow it to shape what they believe and how they live. 🏠 For Parents: Use These Questions at Home These four questions can be a helpful tool as you disciple your student at home. As parents, you are your student’s primary disciplers, and everyday conversations around God’s Word are an important part of helping them know, love, and follow Jesus. As your student reads Scripture—or as you read together—use these questions to guide the conversation. You don’t need to turn it into a formal Bible study or have all the answers. Simply open God’s Word together, talk about what you see, and help your student consider how it shapes the way they live. 🎉 JAM Starts This Wednesday For families who also have younger children, JAM (Jesus and Me) begins this Wednesday, September 16! Who: Children in grades 1–5 Time: 6:30–8:00 PM Please note that Student Ministry begins at 6:00 PM, while JAM begins at 6:30 PM. If your family has children participating in both ministries, we hope this helps you plan for Wednesday night and gives your younger children an opportunity to connect and grow as well. 🙏 Pray With Us Please pray for our students this week: Desire — That they would want to know God through His Word. Understanding — That they would grow in their ability to read and understand Scripture. Response — That God’s Word would shape what they believe and how they live. Habits — That spending time in Scripture would become a regular part of their lives. Student Ministry Parent Update | Uprise & Wednesday Night
Parents, here are a couple of important updates for this week, including a deadline for Uprise and a look at what we’ll be studying Wednesday night. Uprise This Friday & Saturday Uprise is this Friday and Saturday, September 11–12. If your student is planning to attend and you haven’t signed them up yet, I need to know by 8:00 AM Wednesday morning. I’ll be purchasing the tickets Wednesday morning, so please make sure I know your student is going before then.[Uprise Post / Signup Link] Transportation Update I’m working out the final transportation details today and will update the Uprise post later today with the plan for Friday’s pickup/meetup. Please check that post for the latest information. For Saturday, we will meet at Prince Street Church at 11:00 AM. This Wednesday Night We didn’t make it through everything we had planned last Wednesday, so this week we’ll pick up where we left off. We’ll be looking at 2 Timothy 3:16–17 as the basis for our discussion about what we believe the purpose of the Bible is. This Week in Student Ministry We’re excited to get back into our regular Wednesday night rhythm this week! We’ll share a meal, have some fun together, and begin a new series designed to give students a strong foundation for understanding God’s Word and following Jesus. This Wednesday Night Time: 6:00–8:00 PM Location: Youth House Who: Students Here’s what’s happening: 🍝 We’ll Eat: Spaghetti is on the menu! 🎲 We’ll Play: We’ll have some fun and spend time connecting together. 📖 We’ll Grow: We’re beginning our new Foundations series. One Bible. One Story. The Bible contains 66 books, written by many different authors across different periods of history. Yet together, they tell one Story. This Wednesday, we’ll begin looking at the big picture of Scripture and helping students understand how the whole Bible fits together. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s plan unfolding and ultimately pointing us to Jesus. Throughout our Foundations series, our goal is to help students develop a framework for understanding the Bible so that as they read God’s Word for themselves, they can better understand how the pieces fit together. Encourage your student to bring their Bible and come ready to dig in! An Encouragement for Parents As we begin another season of Student Ministry, I also want to encourage you as parents. Even when a student participates in everything we regularly offer during the week, we have approximately three hours with them. Those hours are important, and we want to use them faithfully. But the everyday opportunities parents have to point their teenagers toward Jesus are something Student Ministry can never replace. I recently shared some encouragement about your important role in discipling your teenager and how the church and home can work together. An Encouragement for Parents
Parents of teenagers, I want to begin by saying thank you. Thank you for trusting Prince Street Church Student Ministry to be part of your teenager’s life. We consider it a privilege to spend time with your students, teach them God’s Word, encourage them, pray for them, and help them grow in their relationship with Jesus. We have leaders who genuinely love Jesus and care about your teenagers. We want Student Ministry to be a place where students belong, ask questions, build relationships, hear the Gospel, and learn what it means to follow Christ. But as important as Student Ministry is, we recognize that we only have a small amount of time with your teenager each week. You have something we don’t have: everyday influence. You Are Still Their Primary Discipler The teenage years can sometimes make parents wonder how much influence they still have. Your teenager is becoming more independent. Friends become increasingly important. School, sports, activities, jobs, social media, entertainment, and countless other voices compete for their attention. Sometimes it may even seem like your teenager would rather listen to almost anyone except you. But don’t underestimate the influence God has given you. Even if your student participates in everything we regularly offer during the week, we have approximately three hours with them on average. We believe those three hours matter. We want to use them well. We want to teach God’s Word faithfully, build meaningful relationships, create opportunities to serve, and continually point students toward Jesus. But three hours a week cannot carry the entire responsibility of discipling a teenager. That’s why we believe so strongly in partnering with parents. God has given you countless ordinary moments throughout the week that we will never have—the ride to school, conversations around the dinner table, trips to practice, difficult evenings, celebrations, disappointments, questions about relationships, decisions about the future, and those unexpected late-night conversations. Those moments may not feel like “discipleship,” but they can become some of the most meaningful discipleship opportunities you have. Scripture gives parents a significant role in helping the next generation know and follow God. We see this clearly in Deuteronomy 6: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…” — Deuteronomy 6:5–7 What I love about this passage is that discipleship isn’t described primarily as a program. It happens through everyday life. Faith is talked about at home. Along the road. At bedtime. In the morning. For us, it might happen around the dinner table, on the drive home from practice, sitting in the Chick-fil-A drive-thru, or during one of those late-night conversations when your teenager suddenly decides they’re ready to talk. Those ordinary moments matter. Let Them See Your Faith Notice what comes first in Deuteronomy 6. Before parents are told to teach their children, they are told to love God themselves. One of the most important things you can do for your teenager’s faith is to cultivate your own relationship with Jesus. Your teenager doesn’t need you to be a perfect Christian. They need to see that your faith is genuine. Let them see you read God’s Word. Let them hear you pray. Let them see you worship with the church. Let them see you serve others. Let them hear you talk about what God is teaching you. And let them see what happens when you get things wrong. There is something powerful about a parent being willing to say, “I was wrong. Will you forgive me?” Our teenagers need to understand that following Jesus isn’t about pretending we have everything together. It is about continually depending upon the grace of Christ. Bring Jesus Into Everyday Conversations Discipling your teenager doesn’t mean preaching a sermon every time you get in the car. Sometimes it simply means asking a good question. “What do you think about that?” “How can I pray for you?” “What do you think God would want you to do?” “What has God been teaching you lately?” And sometimes discipleship means listening. Teenagers are beginning to wrestle with big questions about identity, relationships, their future, what they believe, and the kind of person they want to become. Give them room to ask questions. You don’t have to have every answer. When you don’t know, it’s okay to say, “I don’t know. Let’s figure that out together.” The goal isn’t to win every conversation. The goal is to continually help your teenager look toward Jesus. Let Them See That You Need the Church Too There is another part of Deuteronomy 6 that is easy to overlook. The passage begins, “Hear, O Israel.” God gave these instructions to a community of His people. Parents are the primary disciplers of their children, but God never intended parents to do this alone. Your teenager needs the church. They need pastors, Student Ministry leaders, Sunday School teachers, mentors, and other believers who will encourage them and reinforce the truth you’re teaching at home. But they also need to see that you need the church. If church is only important because there is a youth program for your teenager, they’ll notice. Let them see you worship. Let them see you build relationships with other believers. Let them see you serve. Let them see you open God’s Word with others. Let them see that following Jesus isn’t something we do alone. We belong to the body of Christ. The church cannot replace discipleship in the home, and the home was never intended to operate separately from the church. Parents and the church need one another. You Don’t Have to Change Everything This Week Perhaps you’re reading this and thinking about all the things you haven’t done. Maybe family devotions haven’t happened consistently. Maybe you’ve missed opportunities for spiritual conversations. Maybe your teenager seems uninterested in talking about faith right now. None of us will parent perfectly. We need God’s grace just as much as our teenagers do. So don’t try to change everything overnight. Start with one small step. Pray with your teenager once this week. Ask how you can pray for them—and then pray together. Talk about something you learned from Sunday’s message. Share something God has been teaching you. Read a short passage of Scripture together. Make gathering with the church a priority for your family. Small, faithful rhythms can become important parts of your family’s life. We’re Here to Walk With You Parents, we want you to know that Prince Street Church Student Ministry is on your team. Those approximately three hours we have with your student each week matter, and we want to steward them faithfully. But we also want what happens during those hours to strengthen and support what God is doing through you at home. We want to pray for you. We want to encourage you. We want to provide godly adults who know your teenager, care about them, and will point them toward Jesus. And we want to help you navigate the joys and challenges of discipling a teenager. Because ultimately, our goal isn’t simply to have teenagers who show up at youth group. Our desire is to see students know Jesus, love Jesus, and choose to follow Jesus for themselves. So keep going. Love God with your whole life. Keep His Word close to your heart. Look for opportunities to talk about faith in the ordinary moments. Practice your faith alongside the people of God. And through it all, keep pointing your teenager toward Jesus. We are grateful to partner with you along the way. Praise God. Serve Others. Cultivate Disciples.

As our students prepare to head back to school, we want to begin the new school year by praying together. On Wednesday, August 19, Student Ministry will gather for dinner and then travel to the Middle School and High School to pray for our students, teachers, administrators, staff, and the year ahead. Parents are invited to join us as we ask God to guide, protect, and use our students as they follow Christ at school. Event Details Date: Wednesday, August 19, 2026 Time: 6:00–8:00 PM Meeting Location: Youth House Who: Students and parents Dinner: Hot dogs and chips Departure: Around 6:20 PM for the schools Return: Back to the Youth House by 8:00 PM Why We’re Gathering Going back to school brings new routines, opportunities, friendships, and challenges. Before the year begins, we want to intentionally place it before the Lord. As we pray for our students, we’ll also be praying that God helps them live SENT throughout the school year: S — See People: Notice the people God has placed around them. E — Engage Relationally: Build genuine relationships and show Christ’s love through the way they care for others. N — Notice Needs: Pay attention to where people may need encouragement, help, prayer, or friendship. T — Tell Them About Jesus: Be ready to share the hope of the Gospel through both words and actions. Our prayer is that students would not simply make it through another school year, but would recognize that God has sent them into their schools with a purpose. We’ll also pray for their teachers, administrators, staff, classmates, and the entire school community. Parents, we would especially love for you to come and pray alongside your students. This is a meaningful opportunity for families and our Student Ministry to begin the school year depending on God together. Join Us Meet us at the Youth House at 6:00 PM for hot dogs and chips. We’ll leave around 6:20 PM to visit the Middle School and High School for prayer and will return to the Youth House by 8:00 PM. This Week in Student Ministry
This Wednesday, our students will have a special opportunity to serve and connect with some of our homebound church members. We’ll meet at the Youth House at 6:00 PM for dinner, then leave at 6:20 PM to make three visits. We plan to return to the Youth House by 8:00 PM. This is a meaningful opportunity for our students to give back, encourage members of our church family who aren’t able to be with us on Sundays, and build relationships across generations. We’re looking forward to an evening of conversation, encouragement, and showing the love of Christ in a simple but important way. Looking Ahead: Back-to-School Prayer Night Next week will be another special night as we gather for a Back-to-School Prayer Night. With students returning to school on August 20, we want to intentionally cover the new school year in prayer. We’ll travel to the Middle School and High School to pray over our schools, students, teachers, administrators, and staff. We’ll ask God for His protection, wisdom, courage, and opportunities for our students to live out their faith throughout the year. Parents are welcome to join us for this special time of prayer. We would love to have you come alongside our students as we pray for the school year ahead. We hope your student can be part of both of these meaningful Wednesday nights!

Uprise Fest 2026-Update
Uprise Festival 2026 Prince Street Students is heading to Uprise Festival for two days of live Christian music, worship, and time together! Uprise Festival will take place on Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Shippensburg Community Fairgrounds. This year’s featured artists include Brandon Lake, Skillet, TOBYMAC, CeCe Winans, Crowder, and many more. Ticket Cost Student accounts will offset a portion of the ticket price. The costs below are the remaining amounts students will pay after the student-account contribution has been applied: Full two-day event: $80 Friday only: $55 Saturday only: $55 Friday | September 11 Pickup at Shippensburg Area Senior High School: 2:45 PM in the back of the High School. We will pick students up at the high school at 2:45 PM and head to Uprise together. If your student cannot meet us at the high school at that time, please contact us. We can make arrangements for them to meet us earlier at the church or meet us at the Uprise gates. The final concert Friday is scheduled to begin at 9:45 PM. We anticipate returning to the Prince Street Church parking lot between 11:00–11:30 PM. Students will contact their parents when we leave Uprise so you have a better idea of when to meet us at the church. Friday Meal Students attending Friday evening will need to provide their own food. We anticipate returning to the Prince Street Church parking lot between 10:30–11:00 PM. Again, students will contact their parents when we leave Uprise so you know when we're headed back to the church. Back to the Youth House--and Looking Ahead!
Parents, this week Student Ministry returns to the Youth House! As summer begins to wind down, we’ll start helping our students prepare for the transition back to school—not only academically, but spiritually. A new school year brings new routines, relationships, opportunities, and challenges. We want our students to enter it knowing that God has placed them right where they are for a purpose. This week, I’ll introduce SENT, a simple framework that will help guide our students as they return to school: S — See People: Look beyond ourselves and truly see the people God has placed around us. E — Engage with Intentionality: Build meaningful relationships and connect with others purposefully. N — Notice Needs: Pay attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of others. T — Tell About Jesus: Be ready to share the hope and love of Jesus through our words and actions. We want students to recognize that they are SENT by God into their schools, teams, friend groups, and neighborhoods. Each day gives them opportunities to care for others, live out their faith, and make Jesus known. This fall, we’ll also focus on a series of Foundations lessons. These lessons will help students develop a stronger understanding of what they believe and build a biblical foundation that can support them as they navigate everyday life. Together, SENT and Foundations will help students grow deeper in their faith and live it out with purpose. Coming Up Next week: Our students will visit some of our homebound church members. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to serve, encourage others, and build relationships across generations. August 19: We’ll hold a special Prayer for Schools, asking God to guide and protect our students, teachers, administrators, and school staff as the new year begins. September 11–12: We’re looking forward to the Uprise Music Festival on Friday and Saturday! More information about this event will be shared soon. Please pray that our students will begin this school year confident in who they are, attentive to what God is doing around them, and ready to make a difference wherever they are sent. Annual Lake Day
🌊 Annual Student Ministry Lake Day Wednesday, July 29 One of our favorite days of the summer is almost here! Join us for our Annual Lake Day at Tatman Run Recreation Area at Raystown Lake for a full day of fun, fellowship, and making memories together. We'll spend the day swimming, playing games, enjoying the beach, and hanging out with friends. We'll also have jet skis available for students who would like to ride under adult supervision while following all safety guidelines. Event Details 📅 Date: Wednesday, July 29 🕗 Meet at Prince Street Church: 8:00 AM 🕘 Return: Approximately 9:00 PM 📍 Destination: Tatman Run Recreation Area – Raystown Lake Please Register Registration is required. We need everyone planning to attend to sign up so we can arrange enough transportation. 👉Sign Up Here What's Included We'll provide both lunch and dinner, so there's no need to pack a meal. What to Bring Swimsuit Towel Sunscreen Water bottle Beach chair (optional) Change of clothes for the ride home Any medications you may need Swimwear Expectations As followers of Christ, we want everything we do—including how we dress—to honor God and show respect for one another. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone can enjoy the day without unnecessary distractions. For young men: Swim trunks should fit appropriately and be worn at the waist. Shirts are encouraged when not swimming. For young women: Please wear a modest one-piece swimsuit or wear a dark-colored T-shirt or rash guard over a two-piece swimsuit. Swimwear should provide appropriate coverage while participating in all activities. If you're unsure whether something is appropriate, please feel free to ask Pastor Michael before the trip. Student Ministry Parent Reminder: Mini Golf This Wednesday Our Student Ministry is looking forward to a fun evening of fellowship this Wednesday as we head out for mini golf! This is a great opportunity for students to spend time together, build friendships, and enjoy a night of fun outside of our regular programming. Event Details Date: Wednesday Meet: 5:30 PM at the Youth House Return: Approximately 8:00 PM Destination: Wallace Golf Shop 1065 Heritage Ave. Shippensburg, PA 17254 Parent Information Please have your student arrive at the Youth House by 5:30 PM so we can leave together as a group. We expect to return around 8:00 PM, and students can be picked up at the Youth House at that time. Looking Ahead Here are a few dates to keep on your calendar: Next Wednesday: There will be no Student Ministry gathering. The Following Wednesday: We will not meet because of the Shippensburg Community Fair. The Last Wednesday in July: Join us for our annual Lake Day at Raystown Lake (Tatman Run Recreation Area)! This is one of our favorite summer traditions, and more details—including times, what to bring, and transportation information—will be shared soon.
